Despite developed a reputation for ʙᴇɪɴɢ ᴍᴇᴀɴ and ᴀɢɢʀᴇssɪᴠᴇ ᴜɴᴊᴜsᴛʟʏ, but Pit Bull the breed is naturally sweet, nurturing and considerate dogs out there. They know how to care for others unlike any other dog. In the 19th century, Pit Bulls were often referred to as ‘nanny dogs’ because they were known to be loving, loyal and excellent with children. This became even more clear when a Pit Bull and squirrel friendship soon became popular internet.
We want to tell you the story of the dog Everly. Everly is a ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ Pit Bull with such a kind heart. Her mom, Morgan Joy Groves, says that the sweet dog and friendly befriends nearly everyone, even other animals. Recently, a baby squirrel started hanging out near Everly . Maybe this baby squirrel could sense Everly’s loving nature and decide to choose her as her adoptive Mum! To which, Everly was over the moon with the choice. He got to experience the magic of motherly love after a little ᴏʀᴘʜᴀɴsquirrel picked her to be his new mommy. Whether they’re connected by ɢᴇɴᴇᴛɪᴄs or by choice does not matter, what matters is the pure and unconditional love that exists between them.
Groves, Everly’s owner said:” Everly has such a special talent of always being able to make new friends. I was just taking Everly for regular walk when we crossed paths with the baby squirrel. The poor little guy was all alone. His mother didn’t seem to be nearby, and he had an unusual fascination with Everly. So, the squirrel continued to follow we on walk and followed Everly home, where they quickly became best friends. After a tiring walk, Everly first laid down to rest for a bit. The little squirrel climbed on top of her and fell asleep with her. It was the start of a beautiful friendship. Of course, my cat sister was skeptical at first, but it was clear that Everly and the squirrel were happy.” Everly was over the moon to take the little fella in, and the squirrel did not hesitate to get close to her. Actually, the squirrel showed no fear in climbing on top of Everly and the pair enjoyed a nap together. Everly and her foster baby then became inseparable.
Everly and the squirrel’s favorite activity was napping together. The sweet Pit Bull always rested right beside her squirrel friend, and she often sniffed him and groomed him to make sure he was safe and healthy. However, Groves realized that the baby squirrel needed more care than she and Everly could offer if it wanted to grow up to become healthy and able to care for itself. This meant that after a little while, Groves and Everly handed the baby squirrel over to a ᴡɪʟᴅʟɪꜰᴇ ᴄᴇɴᴛᴇʀ where it could get the very best care. Groves said:”Our little squirrel friend was brought to a ᴡɪʟᴅʟɪꜰᴇ ᴄᴇɴᴛᴇʀ where it will be nourished and taken care of. There are two other squirrels his age that he will grow up with, and when ready, be released back into the forest together as a family!”
Although Everly had to say goodbye to her little friend, she continues her motherly duties by regularly showing lots of love and care to her cat. Sometimes, being a good mother means making sure one’s child gets their best chance at a good life, even if it means giving them up. The little squirrel will surely always remember his kind foster mom with love and gratitude, and he’ll forever appreciate the love and comfort she offered him when he needed it the most.
