Dɪsᴀʙʟᴇᴅ, Overweight Chihuahua ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ Completely ɪᴍᴍᴏʙɪʟᴇ And ꜰʀᴏᴢᴇɴ In Fear In Crate Along Highway
Oakland, Nj – An overweight, ᴄʀɪᴘᴘʟᴇᴅ Chihuahua named Stanley is on the road to ʀᴇᴄᴏᴠᴇʀʏ – and fitness – thanks to a group of ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇʀs.
The 8-year-old dog was discovered by animal control officers inside a crate that was ʟᴇꜰᴛ on the side of a busy New Jersey highway. Stanley was completely ɪᴍᴍᴏʙɪʟᴇ and ꜰʀᴏᴢᴇɴ in fear when they got to him. It was an unimaginable sight. The dog was so poor. In our moments of despair, we imagine Stanley ᴛʀᴀᴘᴘᴇᴅ on the side of the highway, watching cars speed by, scared, confused and hoping for his owner to return.
Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge took Stanley in to get him the ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀʟ care he needed. It is hard to imagine where Stanley lived before he was ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ on the highway. He is approximately 8 years old and 21 pounds at 12 inches tall (he should be under 10 pounds)
“All four of his legs are so ʙᴀᴅʟʏ ᴅᴇFᴏʀᴍᴇᴅ that Stanley is unable to walk,” the ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ group wrote on Facebook. Stanley weighs around 21 pounds, more than twice what he should. The ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ says Stanley is able to prop himself up and tries to drag himself around on his front legs.
The plump pooch will need to ʟᴏsᴇ weight before he can be fitted for a wheelchair. Stanley has a long road ahead of weight ʟᴏss, ᴛʜᴇʀᴀᴘʏ and ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀʟ care. For now, the ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ has a special mobility device to help him get around. Stanley is now with a foster family who has him on a special diet to help him shed the pounds.
