Caring Mother Cat ᴀᴅᴏᴘᴛs ᴏʀᴘʜᴀɴᴇᴅ Baby Sphynx Cat As Her Own In Time For Mother’s Day
A mother’s love knows no bounds and in honor of this Mother’s Day. Animals have such strong maternal instincts that they’ll act as a mother to young ones, even if they’re not their biological children. Oʀᴘʜᴀɴᴇᴅ babies in need of a mother have been successfully paired with surrogate mothers, in a beautiful and mutually beneficial relationship. We are delighted to share about the unforeseen bond between our young Sphynx ᴄᴀᴛ, Cleopatra, and her ᴀᴅᴏᴘᴛᴇᴅ mother.
That was the case recently at one shelter, who saw a caring mama ᴄᴀᴛ take an Oʀᴘʜᴀɴᴇᴅ newborn Sphynx ᴄᴀᴛ under her wing as if it were her own ᴋɪᴛᴛᴇɴ.
A young Sphynx ᴄᴀᴛ named Cleopatra landed on our doorsteps in early March after her mother had shown no interest in nursing her babies and her other ᴋɪᴛᴛᴇɴ siblings had passed away. Thankfully, not too long after, we took in a pregnant ᴅᴏᴍᴇsᴛɪᴄ short-haired mother ᴄᴀᴛ named Bellarina who took Cleopatra in as one of her own after she gave birth to three ᴋɪᴛᴛᴇɴs.
Erin Schmitt, the center’s foster program supervisor, says that Ballerina is “in love with” Cleopatra. The caring, maternal ᴄᴀᴛ has instinctively given the Oʀᴘʜᴀɴᴇᴅ ᴋɪᴛᴛᴇɴ the love and care she never got from her own mom.
“Animals are amazing. It’s as though Ballerina sensed a need in Cleo and decided to not only provide her nourishment but provide her all the love she’d been missing,” Schmitt said.
It was a heartwarming story just in time for Mother’s Day. Now, all the ᴄᴀᴛs are looking forward to happy lives in new forever homes.
Most of the ᴄᴀᴛs — Ballerina and babies Bean, Biscuit and Bunny — will soon be available for adoption, while Cleopatra spends a bit more time with us to ᴘᴀss Fɪɴᴀʟ ʜᴇᴀʟᴛʜ ᴄʜᴇᴄᴋs.
