Bean, Cat Branded ‘ᴜɢʟʏ’ Constantly ɪɢɴᴏʀᴇᴅ At Animal Shelter Over Her ‘ɢʀᴜᴍᴘʏ Face’
Those who have ever adopted a pet know that when you meet “the one,” you just know. This was the case for Germany-based Francisca Franken when she came across a rather unusual-looking cat named Bean on an animal shelter website. Describing her new feline friend as “an exotic mix between the Grinch and Maurice from penguins of Madagascar,” Francisca was besotted with Bean’s ɢʀᴜᴍᴘʏ face from the get-go.
Bean was first discovered living as a stray cat in an ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ trailer park before somebody ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇᴅ her. She was covered in ʙᴀᴛᴛʟᴇ sᴄᴀʀs and was in desperate need of medical attention. When she arrived at the shelter she was ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴇᴅ for many ᴀɪʟᴍᴇɴᴛs, including a sᴇʀɪᴏᴜs ᴇʏᴇ ɪɴꜰᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ. You could say that the shelter sᴀᴠᴇᴅ her life.
They nursed her back to health and decided it was time to put her up for adoption as nobody had come forward to claim her. At first, no one came to claim Bean from the “ʟᴏsᴛ and found” section of the shelter, so she was moved to the adoption floor. Surprisingly, no one applied for her, and some people even said she was “ᴜɢʟʏ.” The forlorn feline waited patiently for around six weeks until Francisca finally found her, who immediately wrote to the shelter to ask if Bean was still available.
“I saw her photo and fell in love the second I saw her. Well, at first I laughed because the pictures were so funny and I’d never seen a cat like this before,” Francesca said. It seemed that Bean’s ɢʀᴜᴍᴘʏ face was putting people off, but Francisca did not see that, she thought Bean looked special and cute, and had to meet her.
When Francisca got to see Bean in person at the shelter, she was completely overwhelmed by Bean’s beauty. She finds the cat more beautiful than she imagined, which makes her ready to adopt her right away. Bean now sleeps in bed with Francisca every night and has to always be in the same room as her. As well as her new owner, she is said to be mad about olives and goes ᴄʀᴀᴢʏ whenever she smells them or the brine they’re kept in.
