‘Chunkie’ is a completely different dog than she was back in October. The 3-month-old was ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇᴅafter being spotted by Sᴀᴄʀᴀᴍᴇɴᴛᴏ ғɪʀᴇғɪɢʜᴛᴇʀs on their way to a call.
On a cold day in Sᴀᴄʀᴀᴍᴇɴᴛᴏ the ғɪʀᴇғɪɢʜᴛᴇʀs spotted Chunk the pooch but couldn’t stop as they were on their way to an ᴇᴍᴇʀɢᴇɴᴄʏ call out. But big ʜᴇᴀʀᴛᴇᴅ ғɪʀᴇғɪɢʜᴛᴇʀs didn’t forget the ꜰʀɪɢʜᴛᴇɴᴇᴅ dog. The thought of the puppy kept bothering Mike Thawley. He drove back to the tree, and was ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴏᴋᴇɴ to find a sɪᴄᴋ puppy on the ᴠᴇʀɢᴇ of ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ. Mike discovered that puppy was ᴀʙᴜsᴇᴅ and ɴᴇɢʟᴇᴄᴛᴇᴅ by her owners, who had ᴄᴀʟʟᴏᴜsʟʏ ʟᴇғᴛ her ᴛɪᴇᴅ to the tree in the pouring rain. Her sᴏʀᴇ skin was full of ᴏᴏᴢɪɴɢ ᴏᴘᴇɴ ᴡᴏᴜɴᴅs due to ᴍᴀɴɢᴇ. Aɢᴏɴɪᴢᴇᴅ by what they saw, they couldn’t imagine ʟᴇᴀᴠɪɴɢ her in such a ʙᴀᴅ way. So, Mike Thawley and his crew brought her back to the ꜰɪʀᴇʜᴏᴜsᴇ. When they arrived back, she was given a bath and kept warm, and of course, wanting the best for Chunkie, the fire crew decided it would be best she was taken to a shelter where she could be properly cared for and rehoused.
Mike took her in and gave her a warm bath to ease her ᴘᴀɪɴ. He named the Pit Bull puppy ‘Chunkie’ and took her to the ‘Front Street Animal Shelter’ for further care. He said:” We all just kind of fell in love with her.” Mike’s visit to the shelter just a day after Chunkie’s ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ. He is surprised to find the puppy in a cute pink sweater that covers her ʜᴀɪʀʟᴇss body. Chunk couldn’t stop wagging her tail at the sight of the ꜰɪʀᴇꜰɪɢʜᴛᴇʀ who sᴀᴠᴇᴅ her. It is Chunkie’s reaction on seeing him that truly catches him happy! The ᴛʀᴀᴜᴍᴀ in Chunkie’s eyes is now replaced with hope. She is no longer timid as she eagerly jumps into her savior’s arms and expresses her gratitude with earnest kisses!
But Mike wasn’t just there for a visit, accompanied by his wife and three daughters the ꜰɪʀᴇꜰɪɢʜᴛᴇʀ wanted to adopt the pooch. Bobby Mann, one of the shelter staff members said:” I think what’s great about this whole story is that not only did this dog find its forever home, but had the opportunity to go to a foster home, which we’re always looking for at our shelter, to get happy and healthy.” Mike fell in love with Chunkie too and decided they want to bring chunk home with them. It took four months before Chunkie was well enough to leave the shelter, and family Mike were able to take her home because her ᴍᴀɴɢᴇ ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ wasn’t finished yet, but they were all very happy to adopt her after all that time.
