A Dog Was Lᴇꜰᴛ In A Sʜᴇʟᴛᴇʀ To Be Eᴜᴛʜᴀɴɪᴢᴇᴅ Because Of Her Weight

Humans aren’t the only ones faced with the sᴛʀᴜɢɢʟᴇ ᴏF ᴡᴇɪɢʜᴛ ʟᴏss. 56% of dogs in the U.S. are ᴏᴠᴇʀᴡᴇɪɢʜᴛ or ᴏʙᴇsᴇ, and that excess weight is tied to an ᴀsᴛᴏɴɪsʜɪɴɢ ᴀʀʀᴀʏ of ʜᴇᴀʟᴛʜ ᴘʀᴏʙʟᴇᴍs. When it comes to preventing ᴏʙᴇsɪᴛʏ, or even the slow creep of excess pounds, simple awareness—knowing what your dog’s weight should be, and keeping on top of any ꜰʟᴜᴄᴛᴜᴀᴛɪᴏɴs—is the first step.

Rosemary was the heaviest Chihuahua ever seen by the sʜᴇʟᴛᴇʀ she was brought into by her previous owners. Her weight was 4 times greater than any regular Chihuahua’s.

According to the Humane Society of Northwest Lᴏᴜɪsɪᴀɴᴀ, “The owner surrendered to a sʜᴇʟᴛᴇʀ, requested and sɪɢɴᴇᴅ ᴘᴀᴘᴇʀs ᴛᴏ ᴇᴜᴛʜᴀɴɪᴢᴇ. The sʜᴇʟᴛᴇʀ staff quickly decided that was not the route they wanted to go on this ᴍᴏʀʙɪᴅʟʏ ᴏʙᴇsᴇ Chihuahua who is only 3 years young.”

Luckily, the staff at the sʜᴇʟᴛᴇʀ was determined to ʜᴇᴀʟ Rosemary and find her a home: “This gal will go on a strict ᴅɪᴇᴛ and exercise plan starting tomorrow, to get her back in shape and ʜᴇᴀʟthy!!!

Dogs this ᴏᴠᴇʀᴡᴇɪɢʜᴛ are very sᴀᴅ; sure, they might love ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛs and human food, but causing ᴅᴀᴍᴀɢᴇ ᴛᴏ ᴛʜᴇ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ, ʟᴜɴɢs and other ᴠɪᴛᴀʟ ᴏʀɢᴀɴs is not a way to live and almost guarantees a shorter life expectancy! Poor girl can barely walk 10 steps before coming ᴛɪʀᴇᴅ ᴀɴᴅ ᴏᴜᴛ ᴏF ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜ. She is on ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs Fᴏʀ sᴇɪᴢᴜʀᴇs as well!!! She will get a thorough exam from our ᴠᴇᴛᴇʀɪɴᴀʀɪᴀɴ and be closely monitored during her stay with us!”

After a strict ᴅɪᴇᴛ and exercise plan, Rosemary started getting better!
